Every year in March, we celebrate college basketball by making wild predictions based on far too little information, and a wonderful time is had by all. Inspired by this, we decided we wanted to run our own tournament, and then run a contest we call “The Hero Melee Madness Contest” where you, the fans will try to predict the outcome of our little tournament.
Shown above is the bracket, listing the matchups for the 32 hero Battlepack Tournament we will be running in our office over the course of May. You will have until midnight (PST) on Sunday May 6th to submit your predictions – ranking each of the heroes from 32 down to 1 (32 is the highest rank – for the hero you think will win the whole tourney), then we will begin running the tournament. Each round, you will get points for each hero who wins, based on your ranking (For example, if you give Statesman the #27 rank, then you will receive 27 points each time he wins a match). You can only enter once, and there’s a maximum of 2 entries per household.
The matches will be one-on-one contests between 2 heroes, each using a single Battlepack as their deck. We will be posting results for each match at www.cohccg.com, and updating the bracket nearly every day here on the CoH CCG site as we play the matches in our offices. After each round ends, we will also post the leaderboard showing whose predictions are coming out on top. At the end of the tournament, whoever has accumulated the most points, wins!
You want to know about prizes? We’ve got your prizes! There are City of Heroes™ CCG Tshirts for the top 6 entries. The top 3 entries will also get a complete set of the foil cards from the basic set, and a CoH CCG license plate frame! You heard me, I said a license plate frame! And the grand prize-winner for the best prediction… your hero becomes a card in an upcoming expansion (of course, you’ll get extra copies of the hero card and your signature power!). That’s right, your hero will become part of the game!
Not enough? Well, our friends at NCSoft decided to chip in, as well. That means that the top 6 finishers will also get a copy of the Collector’s Edition of City of Villains™ – the most diabolical MMORPG ever made! That’s the box with SEVEN exclusive Heroclix™, the exclusive Statesman™ promo card, a beautiful art book from CoH and CoV, plus hours and hours of hero-busting action!
If you have any questions, please ask us at the COH CCG forum so we can make things clearer, or just to discuss and argue over which hero is going to win the whole thing! You can download the bracket to plan your strategy. You can go here for the official rules.

If you are interested in some “expert” analysis of the bracket, we’ve got something for ya:
4/27 – Our expert analysis begins with a breakdown of the first round by our very own Danny “The Greek” Ray.
4/29 – The analysis continues! Here, the City of Heroes ccg lead designer (and fantasy sports nut) Dave Williams breaks down the whole tournament and tells us why his pick to win the tournament doesn’t get his highest ranking!
New 5/2 – Early returns are in, and while the polls are still open, we have some familiar names at the tops of the average entry. Click here to see how the fans are predicting the outcome so far! There are some familiar names at the top…
